Search the Soul Sand Valley in the Nether for these rare blocks. Happy Ghast blocks often spawn near bone structures and emit a faint blue glow that can be seen from a distance.

Bring a Netherite Pickaxe for quicker mining efficiency and a higher chance of successful Happy Ghast block extraction!
2

Hydrate to Generate a Happy Ghast Ghastling

Place the Dried Happy Ghast block in a water source in the Overworld and wait for approximately 20 minutes. The Happy Ghast block will slowly absorb water and transform into a baby Happy Ghast Ghastling.

Place multiple Happy Ghast blocks to increase your chances of rare Happy Ghast color variations and special Happy Ghast abilities!
3

Feed Snowballs for Happy Ghast Growth

Feeding snowballs to a Happy Ghast Ghastling

Once a Happy Ghast Ghastling appears, feed it snowballs until it transforms into a fully grown Happy Ghast. This typically requires 8-12 snowballs, but may vary based on the Happy Ghast Ghastling's size.

Snow biomes are the best place to gather snowballs quickly for your Happy Ghast! Build a snow farm for a steady supply of Happy Ghast food.

Happy Ghast Usage Guide

HOW TO USE YOUR HAPPY GHAST

Once you've obtained your Happy Ghast companion, follow these instructions to make the most of your Happy Ghast's unique abilities and features.

1

Craft a Happy Ghast Harness

Combine 3 leather + 2 glass panes + 1 wool in a crafting table to create a Happy Ghast Harness. This equipable item allows you to ride and control your Happy Ghast companion effectively.

The wool color determines the Happy Ghast harness color and appearance. Choose your favorite to customize your Happy Ghast's look!
2

Mounting and Flying Your Happy Ghast

Right-click on your Happy Ghast with the harness to equip it. Up to 4 players can ride a Happy Ghast at once. Use standard movement controls to navigate your Happy Ghast through the skies of the Minecraft world.

Watch out for tight spaces - Happy Ghasts can't pass through 1-block gaps! Plan your Happy Ghast flight path carefully through terrain.
3

Building and Exploration with Happy Ghast

Use your Happy Ghast as a floating platform for building sky bases or as an early-game flight tool for exploring difficult terrain. Happy Ghasts remain stationary when not being ridden, making them perfect building platforms.

Happy Ghasts can carry chests - perfect for long exploration trips and aerial resource collection with your Happy Ghast companion!

Common Happy Ghast Questions

HAPPY GHAST FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Find answers to the most common questions about Happy Ghasts and learn how to make the most of your new Happy Ghast flying companion.

Can Happy Ghasts be bred? +

No, Happy Ghasts cannot be bred. Each Happy Ghast must be created through the hydration and feeding process starting with a Dried Happy Ghast block. This is by design to maintain Happy Ghast rarity in the game and encourage exploration for more Happy Ghast blocks.

What happens if my Happy Ghast gets damaged? +

Happy Ghasts have 40 health points (20 hearts) and will regenerate health slowly over time when not being ridden. You can speed up Happy Ghast healing by feeding them quartz crystals. If a Happy Ghast is defeated, it will drop its Happy Ghast harness and a special Happy Ghast essence that can be used to revive your Happy Ghast.

Can I customize my Happy Ghast's appearance? +

Yes! The color of wool used in the Happy Ghast harness recipe will determine the color of the Happy Ghast goggles and saddle trim. There are also rare Happy Ghast color variants that can spawn naturally based on the biome where you hydrate your Dried Happy Ghast block. Texture packs can further customize your Happy Ghast's appearance.

How high can a Happy Ghast fly? +

Happy Ghasts can fly up to Y-level 320 in the Overworld, Y-level 128 in the Nether, and Y-level 256 in the End. Happy Ghasts cannot go below Y-level 0 in any dimension. Special enchanted Happy Ghast harnesses can extend these Happy Ghast height limits in future updates.

Do Happy Ghasts despawn? +

No, Happy Ghasts are considered tamed mobs and will not despawn. However, Happy Ghasts can wander quite far if not tethered to a fence post using a lead. Using name tags on your Happy Ghast is recommended for easy Happy Ghast identification in multiplayer servers.
